The Difficult Airway Course

The EMS Difficult Airway Course is the WORLD’s largest Prehospital Airway Course.

The 2-day course is delivered face-to-face and teaches a full range of airway management techniques as well as allowing learners to practice decision making relating to the difficult airway in various simulated situations.

Course Content

The DAC develops knowledge and skills relating to:

– Prediction of the difficult airway

– Managing the airway with a wide range of supraglottic devices and perfecting BVM ventilation technique

– Video laryngoscopy and other advanced imaging devices

– Suction assisted laryngoscopy and airway decontamination (SALAD) simulation

– Endotracheal intubation masterclass

– Medication assisted intubation (including RSI and RSA)

– Cricothyrotomy – emergency surgical airway (FONA) using tissue trainers

– Paediatric airway skills, including intubation

This course is delivered exclusively by Emergency and Critical Care Doctors, Nurses and Paramedics who have extensive experience of managing airways in the prehospital setting.

Eligibility

The DAC is appropriate for those who may be expected to manage an airway in the prehospital setting, although many of the skills taught will benefit airway management in any situation, e.g.

– Paramedics, EMTs and Nurses working in the prehospital setting

– Specialist Practitioners in Critical Care

– Doctors involved with pre hospital medicine
