FREC Course Description
The Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (FREC 3) course is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification ideal for those working or volunteering in roles where they may end up as the first responder on scene. It fulfils the competencies set out in the PHEM skills framework at descriptor level D.
This 5-day interactive course provides the knowledge and practical skills needed to deal with a range of pre hospital emergency care situations.
ECS is also authorised to deliver the optional Extended Skills module upon request from eligible candidates.
Course Content
The FREC 3 course develops knowledge and skills relating to:
– Roles and Responsibilities of a First Responder
– Structured A-E approach to the assessment of both medical and trauma patient presentations
– Management of Major Illnesses and Trauma, including life-threatening bleeding control and airway management
– Administration of Emergency Oxygen
Extended Skills Module:
– Use of Supraglottic Airway Devices
– Administration of Inhaled Analgesia (Nitrous Oxide/ Penthrox)
– Administration of Naloxone
– Blood Glucose Measurement
This course is delivered by qualified instructors with extensive pre hospital experience working as Paramedics and Emergency Care Assistants.
Eligibility
The FREC 3 is an ideal qualification for those who may be first on scene at an emergency such as those working at Events, Door Supervisors and Security Guards or high risk environments including manufacturing and agricultural settings.
For those with further ambitions, this qualification also forms the first step towards a career in pre hospital care.
