Critical Care Transfer Course

The Critical Care Transfer Awareness programme aims to ensure all staff involved in the transfer of critically ill patients receive training in transfer medicine as per the Intensive Care Society (ICS) guidelines (2019)

This multi-professional 1-day course, provided by Thames Valley & Wessex Critical Care Network, is delivered face -to-face and allows clinical staff involved in the transfer of level 2 and level 3 patients to learn new skills and share knowledge in a safe and supportive environment. This course promotes the fundamental concepts that promote safe inter and intra hospital transfer through high fidelity real-time simulation.

The Critical Care Transfer Course develops knowledge and skills relating to:

• Decisions to transfer
• Communication in relation to transfer
• Assessment and stabilisation of the patient prior to transfer
• Preparation for transfer
• Carrying out safe transfer
• Handover following transfer
