ECS Appoints a Chief Operating Officer

We are incredibly excited to announce that Craig Harman joins us from the 1st November 2023 as our Chief Operating Officer!

Craig joined St John Ambulance in 2019 as their National Director responsible for operations. Craig has led on a significant transformation and improvement programme which has seen all services rated as 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission. He secured a £30 million investment which placed St John as the national ambulance auxiliary service to the NHS in England, led the organisation's Covid-19 response, including recruiting and training over 26,000 volunteers to give both the Covid-19 and flu vaccine in support of the NHS, and was the Executive accountable for the planning and response to Operation London Bridge - the death of Her late Majesty The Queen, followed by the Coronation of His Majesty The King.

Before joining St John, Craig worked in the NHS ambulance sector, both in London and Scotland, most recently as the Head of 999 Service Delivery at London Ambulance Service where he was also part of the Trust's Strategic Leadership Team. He is an NHS Assembly Member, advising the board of NHS England about the NHS Long Term Plan and he remains operational both as emergency ambulance crew and an operational manager. In September this year, Craig was appointed as a Member of the Most Venerable Order of St John by His Majesty The King.

Craig said 'I am delighted to be joining #TeamECS next month. Having worked alongside ECS over the last few years, I have always been impressed by the company's ethos, and the people and clinicians who are clearly passionate about driving standards. I can't wait to support the tremendous work they carry out right across ECS.'

Craig starts with ECS on the 1st November, and will be joining our Executive Leadership Team, alongside Edward Langford, David Connor and Dan Cody. As our COO, Craig will be accountable for day to day operations across ECS and will lead on the delivery of our strategic aims as we continue our strive for excellent patient care, through teamwork and a sustained passion for governance, quality and continuous improvement.

Dr Edward Langford, Managing Director said; 'We are thrilled to be able to share this news. Enhanced Care Services has a clear focus on its people, patients and quality and Craig's values clearly align with ours. Craig brings valuable and extensive experience across ambulance, event and education spheres and will hugely complement our existing team, as we deliver our strategic aims and continue our strive for excellence.'
